What do you mean, "we"?Reader comment on item: America the Unpopular Submitted by Frank Brady (United States), Nov 6, 2003 at 15:40 Well, at least we know WHY Bush attacked Iraq. It was because Paul Wolfowitz and his gang of PNAC neo-crazy knuckle-draggers WANTED to attack Iraq. This administration, for which I worked and voted, is sending brave young American fighting men and women to their completely unnecessary deaths (and they are dying daily) to advance a lie, apparently in pursuit of PNAC's insane policy objectives. That lie is, of course, that the Bush administration's completely illegal attack on the sovereign nation of Iraq had anything to do with the so-called "war against terror." There were, manifestly, no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq worthy of concern; no means of delivering them against us had they existed; and no evidence of any intention by the former Iraqi regime to employ them against us should it ever acquire them. Moreover, the contention that there were serious collaborative links between the former Ba'ath socialist dictatorship and Islamist terrorist organizations is as ludicrous as the proposition that Saddam, a secular pragmatist interested primarily in his own survival, would have provided his (non-existent) WMD to the Islamists who despise him and all for which he stands. Those are facts, Mr. Gillespie, and no amount of spin, however artfully conjured up, will change them. That Saddam Hussein was an evil dictator is true but irrelevant. The world is filled with evil dictators and many of them are counted among the administration's friends and allies. The extent of the contempt with which the administration and the current leadership of the Republican Party regard the American people and their values is manifested by the sheer magnitude and transparent arrogance of the falsehoods the propaganda machine spews forth daily. The President and other members of the administration are, self-evidently, guilty of war crimes and other high crimes and their conduct poses a grave threat to peace, what remains of Constitutional government and American liberty.
