NationalismReader comment on item: America the Unpopular Submitted by mast (United Kingdom), Jun 22, 2011 at 17:48 i wouldn't say that the US can rule the world. Looking at the public deficit they have they are in serious difficulties and would find it VERY hard to find more money if things were getting worse. They will face serious problems when oil supply will go down. The main problem that I see if the US is that the country has changed drastically over the last 10 years. I lived there in the 2000's (before and a bit after) and I liked it. I have been on business trips on a few occasions these last few years, and things have SERIOUSLY declined. There is a form of nationalism and feeling of superiority there that I had not experienced before. What concerns me is that while these behaviours have developed because these people live in a more and more secluded way. The don't travel and have a VERY poor culture. They don't know much to say almost nothing of the rest of the world, their cultures, etc and live being utterly convinced they are they have invented pretty much everything. I don't mind so much arrogance as such, but I am very afraid of what that country will become if in a few years time if they continue that path. They will isolate themselves from the rest of the world and will have more and more ennemy. They will have no escape but to become even more nationalist with the consequences that we know this will have.
