More about democracy and the Muslim mindReader comment on item: A Democratic Islam? Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Jun 1, 2008 at 08:49 Our dear Khawla who claims that her name is an Arabic name for gazelle but I cannot find such name in Arabic language dictionaries wrote >When I mentioned democracy I mentioned decision making. When I mentioned decision making I mentioned public welfare. In democracy, people are allowed to make decisions related to punishments, education, health services, ..etc. You need to stop wasting your time reading the Qur'an and take a class in Political Science and learn about what is really democracy because it is very clear to me that you do not read anything about democracy beyond tablighee nonsense >But, are these decisions for the good of all or for a special party? Darling. Nothing in life can be good for all of us or we will be all living in Nirvana (oh wrong religion) and you know what? why did we have Shi3a Islam? Could it be because one group of Muslims felt that they are a "special party" and they had to go their way? > Are the decisions, or votes, harming a group of people? Yes it can. But "harming" is always in the eyes of the beholder and the beholder can always resort to going to court and present his/her case and this is what democracy is all about >No compromises? There are always "compromises" in democracy but not in the brabaric shari3a as you cannot change for example stoning (rajm) or chopping an arm as punishments after all these barabaric dispensations are the words of your Arabian God. >these people so knowledgeable of the situation of the whole community? Logic would dictate that some are and some are not. These are human beings after all and they can make mistakes and the ultimate verdict would be is that they will not be re-elceted or even go to jail if they break the law >What is the quality of these decisions? Some will be good and some will not be so good. But the not so good can be re-addressed. In Islam how could you change something as barbaric as chopping an arm? or stoning and chopping the head of a princess whose only vice was that she fell in love with a man when these are the verdicts of the God of the universe? >No one can make a decision without examining. People should be heard. And people are heard in democracy >This is administration. Is not Sharia a good system for the life of Muslims? No it is not. >What is justice in Islam and what is justice in the eyes of different people of this world? Kings? Queens? Counselors? Ministers? The qualities of the leader, counselors and ministers? What is to be expected of the leader and ministers? Are the leaders and ministers fair and place the public interests to individual interests? Are they accountable? If not, they should not stay! You are posing these questions. Do you happen to have answers? >What are human rights? What do you think what is really human rights? > What are equal rights? Well let me see: 1. The equality of men and women 2. The equality of Muslims and non Mulsims And both items do not exist in Islam or the barbaric shari3a >Can we fulfill a right and this harms another? Yes it can but in democracy this can be addressed in a court of law and laws can be changed. In the brabaric shri3a a non Muslim cannot testify in court against a Muslim even if this Muslim did him harm and the non Mulsim has no legal recourse. So much for the justice of Allah. In islam what do you do for a person who had his arm chopped? and how do you expect him to earn a living and pay back to the society for his own mistakes? > Is there a limit to freedom? You did not read my post addressed to you about the movie theater and yelling "fire fire" when there is no fire? Another example is libel. Yes there are limits for freedom of speech. You are clueless are you? >Can someone harass another verbally and not get caught? I'm sure you are aware of the old saying: If you cannot stand the heat then get out of the kitchen. No one has to listen, and you must pardon me, to your nonsense then if you feel that you are verbally harassed then get out the kitchen. > Is it fair for others to protest and others not when their faith is ridiculed? If you come to tell us that islam is the true faith then we must examine your claim. May be what you need to do is to stop being an apologist for islam. But wait: your Allah ridicules Christianity and Judaism and paganism. At least we are only human beings and we are not the so called God of the universe >Is Islam really against justice for all? Yes it is. And do you know why? because islam rejects al-3ulmaniya! You did not check this word. Did you? >People see the world differently. Wow, Big time falsafa >People have different opinions. Whatever > People are free to do what they want - No they are not and not even in a democracy. Remember the movie theater? >they can make the choice. Yes they can >People can do good deeds or bad deeds. No one is forced. No one is born perfect. People have different cultures, faiths, and views of how to live in this world. People can be selfish or considerate. People need to always be reminded to be good. Good not only towards themselves, but also towards the others. This is an important principle in all faiths. You really need to read a good book about what is really democracy and do us a favor: stop reading tablighee nonsense oh and the Qur'an too Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
