Against the revisionists

Army of Shadows documents that the initial impulse of the yishuv was to co-exist with Arabs not only peacefully, but cooperatively and sometimes helpfully as well. The absolutism and bigotry of the Grand Mufti and his followers created and nurtured the conflict which prevented this cooperation.

Conflict, not nationalism per se, was and is the program of the Palestinian leadership. Supporters of conflict consistently suppress the nationalist impulse whenever it involves compromise, coexistence, cooperation. Contrast this with the Zionist model which sought compromise both as a pragmatic strategy, and to avoid conflict as a matter of ethics and morality. Sadly, the historical revisionists have worked hard to demonize Zionism by distorting precisely this point.
