Recent poll about Palestinians regarding the minority who is ready to live next to a Jewish stateReader comment on item: Palestinians Who Helped Create Israel Submitted by PezDispenser (Israel), Jul 18, 2014 at 16:12 Dr. Pipes, I noticed a few small yet possibly interesting data points in the June 2014 Washington Institute poll of the Palestinians: http://www.washingtoninstitute.org/uploads/Documents/other/PalestinianPollingReport_June2014.pdf Specifically, on Page 1 of the PDF above they found that of those surveyed, 30.6% in the West Bank agree to a "two state solution" and 21.8% agree to this in Gaza, which totals 27.3% overall. On Page 2, they asked "if the Palestinian leadership is able to negotiate a two-state solution", 32.3% and 30.4% of those surveyed in the West Bank and Gaza respectively (31.6% total) agree that "this should be the end of the conflict with Israel." Two points/ questions: 1) The survey did not reference the so-called "right of return", so I don't know how valid the data is about the two-state solution and whether the average Palestinian assumes that an agreement includes Israel's capitulation on this issue. Your thoughts on this point? 2) I see a 7-11% rise above the historic 20% that you mentioned in this article to around 30%. While this is far from the 60% needed to end the conflict, it seems to be a small sign of progress. Do you agree?

I assume that acceptance of the two-state solution by Palestinians indicates less an acceptance of Israel as the Jewish state and more a desire to get a "Palestine" en route to destroying Israel. So, I am less optimistic than you about the significance of these figures. 2 - I do not have a sense that more Palestinians accept Israel. Reader comments (52) on this item
