ROUND AND ROUND WE GO, JENReader comment on item: Reflections on Obama's Inauguration Submitted by DANIEL REDMOND (United States), Jan 23, 2010 at 10:19 Dear Jen: If I were "naive" as you suggest, it would still be better than simply 'making it up as you go along,' as is the case in your stated criticisms of Obama. I don't know what you've been reading but most of what you've listed as 'fact' is ludicrous. I'll run through some of it, with appropriate counter-comment, in the order of its appearance. Obama was raised by liberals, not Communists; there's a difference, although apparently not one that you would recognize. Yes, he spent a brief period in a Muslim elementary school while his mother lived in Indonesia because that was the only kind of school available. It was in the second grade, I believe, and as with all second graders he had no choice in the matter. If your parents had dumped you in a Muslim school during the second grade do you assume you'd be a Muslim today because of it? His "common American background experience" included going to Junior High and High School at a typical American public school system in Hawaii. (In case you haven't heard, Hawaii is part of the United States.) Yes, I too detest the racist Reverend Jeremiah Wright and I'm glad Obama has discontinued that relationship. I equally detested the fraudulent windbag Jerry Falwell when he influenced several sitting Republican presidents in the past, including Obama's immediate predecessor, George W. Bush. There are no legitimate doubts about Obama's fatherhood. There are no legitimate doubts about Obama's citizenship. I don't know if he ever registered for the draft but since he didn't turn 19 until at least five or six years after the Vietnam war ended and the draft was discontinued shortly thereafter he probably wasn't required to. Didn't pay parking tickets? Maybe, but at least he didn't get busted for drunk driving and cocaine abuse like someone else who sat in the White House for eight years. He was not "mostly Arab." His father was a black African and his mother was 100% Caucasian. How do you come up with his lineage as being "6% white"? Did you fail math in school by any chance? Half of 100% would normally be considered 50%, as in one parent contributing fifty percent to one's genetic inheritance. Who are Frank Marshall and Cousin Odinga? More to the point, who cares if they helped him get elected? He brought up the race issue on his own and this is a bad thing? As opposed to pretending it wasn't an issue for instance when everyone else was talking about it? His relationship with Hillary Clinton is pretty good these days. If you haven't heard yet, he appointed to to be his the secretary of state. "Globalist ideals"? Oh, you mean like invading foreign countries to spread our way of life, for instance? [hello, George W. Bush] "Arrogance"? You mean like invading foreign countries to spread our way of life and telling the rest of the world to kiss our butt if they don't like it? [hello again, George] "Not defining issues"? Sort of like, uh, let's see, running for president by saying "I'm a uniter, not a divider" and then not only dividing the country but getting the rest of the world to hate us at the same time? Nice work, George. Yeah, we're in trouble all right. After eight years of Republican rule we're lucky we've even got a country left to live in. I'm hoping Obama can help fix it up again. Good night, George.....good night, Jen.....sweet dreams. -DANIEL REDMOND
