sufi imdad ali soomro repeats a lieReader comment on item: My Optimism About Europe Submitted by Gopal (United States), Feb 15, 2011 at 23:22 Dear Dr Pipes: It is said that if you repeat a lie over and over again, it will be accepted as truth. That is why every time a lie is repeated, it should be refuted. Reader Imdad Ali Soomro repeated the lie "west fought two world wars but no one condemns Christianity". His implication is that no one should question Islam due to the deeds of a few terrorists. Soomro's lie has many other versions. The other one is that even though Timothy McVeigh killed a few hundred people in a bomb blast no one condemns Christianity. Soomro's assertions are wrong for, at least, the following three reasons: 1. The basis for the two world wars was not religious. German Christians in WW II did not bomb French Christians to establish Christianity. Nor did Budhist Japan wanted to establish Christianity or Buddism. As many people as killed the jews, there were many more who defended them. 2. The world wars happened more than 60 years ago. Whatever reasons and justifications applied then, cannot be repeated now. 3. Neither during the world wars nor now there are any countries who singlemindedly and officially supported one single religion (Christianity). In today's world there are many countries whose explicit and declared goal is to preserve and expand Islam. So any comparison between today's Islam and early 20th century Europe is misguided.
