Here we go again! Did Anthony Weiner convert to Islam?Reader comment on item: Is Grover Norquist an Islamist? Submitted by Prashant (United States), Jun 12, 2011 at 06:08 Dear Dr Pipes: Why is it so important for us to ask whether Weiner converted to Islam or not? All available evidence points to the fact that he did not. He does not say that he is. Bill Clinton who officiated in the marriage is not an Islamic Imam. We the non-muslims simply do not have the confidence to believe that a Muslim can be pulled out of the Islamic faith. And we do not have the confidence to believe that any one of us is so strong in his faith that he can marry a muslim woman and keep his original faith. Who cares that Huma Abedin's marriage to Weiner is illegal according to Islamic dogma. If Weiner was forced to convert, sooner or later people will see the hypocrisy of it all -- why is it always a one way street when a non-Muslim marriaes a muslim? Sooner or later , also, some Abedin whose marriage and love is declared illegal just because she loved a non-muslim will develop a dislike for such Islamic practices. Are we not waiting for that day? So let us keep the things as they look: Abedin is a modern Muslim woman who has the courage to marry a Jewish man. Her husband is a Jew and will remain so. Let us do nothing to unnecessarily doubt what is possible. And if our assumptions turn out to be wrong in the future, it will reflect even more badly on the ancient Islamic dogma.
