Uninformed ...Reader comment on item: Is Grover Norquist an Islamist? Submitted by Luke (United States), Oct 29, 2012 at 11:42 ... I'm all for freedom of speech, but ... the fundamental problem ... is its assumption that Islam represents a monolithic mentality. It's not just an incorrect assumption, it's an assumption that anyone with any real familiarity with human beings and how they operate can easily debunk. In this case, Norquist and his wife can be linked to Khaled Saffuri who in turn may be connected with Islamic political parties condemned for terrorist activities against Israel. What does that make Khaled Saffuri? A terrorist? A tool of radical Muslims intent on penetrating and toppling the U.S. government? No, it just makes him a lobbyist. If a secular Israeli Jew, who was tied to organizations that had brutalized Palestinians, came to D.C. and started rubbing shoulders with American politicians and activists, we would only think of him/ her as a special interest lobbyist, even though what he/she may be connected to is inhumane and unethical. It would just be politics as usual. So why the double standard if an American lobbyist or politician is linked to Muslims? If Sama Alrayyes got married in a Methodist church, it's clear that she doesn't take Islam that serious. This could be said for a lot of Muslims, especially Muslims in the United States. Not all Muslims are devout, just like their Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, Mormon, etc. counterparts. That's just common sense. That said, let's just recognize Grover Norquist for what he is: a slimy special interest lobbyist. Just like all the other slimy, shady lobbyists in D.C. Nothing more, nothing less.
