Israel and USA as Obama does not see

When Benjamin Netanyahu was the minister of finance of Israel he reformed the Israeli economy, a reform that took much of its socialism character and made the economy a capitalistic one. Israel's economy took off to a height no one in Israel and the world ever imagined. Israel transformed from a banana republic to a start-up nation, with innovation in every field possible. Since then, the popular slogan was invented, 'You want to live like in America, Israel it is America.'

From her inception, much of the support for Israel came from the American Jewry, without them the growth would have been even more difficult. The support the American Jewry gave Israel, whether financial, technically or spiritually and morally, has greatly imprinted on the closeness between the two nations.

Born in Israel, I remember the days, when we had no supermarkets and buying food consisted of the very basics, not the kind of supermarkets stacked to the ceiling with any kind of food, vegetables and fruit one sees on every corner in Israel today.

I remember receiving a CARE package each month that our well off family in New York contributed. My mother kept the syrupy high caloric canned pineapple and the chocolate bars as if they were a treasures; we indulged in them only during high holidays dinners.

There is a great closeness between the two countries on many other levels. However, Israel is not the United States vassal state, as Obama and his administration treats it. What Obama has been doing, is driving a wedge of total distrust and animosity between the two countries and this atmosphere will remain until Obama finally packs his bags and leaves the White house. I cannot wait.
