Excellent backgrounder, but perhaps begs the questionReader comment on item: Lessening UNRWA's Damage Submitted by Ted Gruen (United States), Jul 10, 2012 at 16:23 Mr. Pipes' Israeli sources understandably treat UNRWA like the 500-lb gorilla in the room, and I am glad to hear their cogent reasons, which seem to run from keeping Arabs who would otherwise starve fed to keeping starving Arabs from mobbing the borders of Israel. So if Israeli self-interest is involved in their thinking, that ought to be fine with any supporter of Israel. But what of Israel's deeper interest, and the world's, in seeing a wholesale reduction in the rolls of UNRWA's non-refugee "refugees?" Who, if not Israel's supporters, will demand an ultimate end to the bloated, overwhelmingly politically-oriented UNRWA whose fictive welfare roll grows exponentially, outnumbering even the population of some member nations of the UN?
