Corruption of Our Political ClassReader comment on item: Rampaging Islamists Submitted by Kepha Hor (United States), Sep 22, 2012 at 20:35 As a Christian, I prefer the protections of the First Amendment, which allows me to tell a so-called "atheist" that he's really a Ba'al-worshiper when he accses me of living on the "epiphenomena" of history to any acceptance of blasphemy law. But, Dr. Pipes is right to note that governments like to limit free speech. It bothers me greatly that the supposedly "brilliant" (like Elena and Nicolae Ceaucescu?) constitutional scholar now leading us seems ready to ditch the First Amendment for the sake of any one of his base support interests. His judicial nominee Elena Kagan likes "hate speech laws", at least when directed against people whose politics she doesn't like. His HHS issued a decree demanding that religious employers pay for abortion and contraceptive coverage--a sop to the radical feminists, for whom "women's health" is apparently only protection for sexual irresponsibility, and apparently nothing to do with things like uterine cancer, which we men can't get. Now, to please international Islam, the O's administration is more comfortable giving undue prominence to people like Terry Jones and Nakoula Bassiley Nakoula than in explaining the First Amendment. I'm shocked that in some international child custody cases, judges have abandoned the "best interests of the child" standard and bowed to Sharia just to appear "liberal" and "open-minded". Granted, I accept that you can't yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater. But the way this administration seems to care less for the First Amendment bothers me no end.
