How many anti Islamists on the Left? Not many..so how do we win?Reader comment on item: Rampaging Islamists Submitted by Shishir (United States), Jul 11, 2013 at 14:44 I cant think of too many- there was the late Christopher Hitchens and Orianna Fallaci. There are practically none in the American or British left. I am not familiar with Europe. But there was the anti Immigrant homosexual environmentalist Pim Fortuyn who was killed Jeez, these anti Islamist leftists have a habit of dying off! Any more like Pim Fortuyn in Europe? I think the many mainstream leftists in America and Europe are brainless and slavish enough to follow their leader even he is anti Islamist. We have seen them not utter a word against drone happy and Guantanamo maintaining Obama. He has been given far more leeway by the enablers of Islamism on this matter than red meat cowboy Texan Bush OTOH some on the right like Grover Norquist and Chris Christie are rather oblivious to stealth and explicit Islamism and inadvertently even enable them All said and done, I think the time for fighting Islamists wars in the conventional manner has passed.Oh lets skip the euphemisms, they have failed in Iraq and Afghanistan. And the American public has scant patience for more. So I think they will be much happier if it is fought right mostly by the FBI and CIA. Im in agreement with the Democrats on one aspect of the WOT-While I agree with the Right that Al Qaeda ,Hezbollah et al have declared war on the West,it does not mean the West should retaliate in by warring in a conventional manner.Especially if convention dictates "winning hearts and minds".Better the Roman way-create a(nother) desert and call it peace. Now it has enablers not just on the campuses, government ,media and corporates but also in Russia and China who use Iran ,Syria and Pakistan as their cats paw against the West. Since the West is not up to that type of ferocity anymore ,it is best to proceed by threats ,intimidation(ala Israeli jets over the presidential palace in Damascus),terror (as Fouad Ajami recommended -let car bombs go off in Tehran and Damascus),humiliation(a small splendid war followed by trial and execution of the despot, a disorientated disheveled Saddam terrified every other dictator in the Middle East) , false flags (bombs going off in Moscow and Beijing courtesy of CIA and have it blamed on splinter groups in Iran ,Saudi,Pakistan and Syria) and negotiating (sons of Anbar) Master the rules of the bazaar and the Bedouin and you are set Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
