Dear Prashant ,

Thanks a lot for your polite and diplomatic response. If it is part of your principles not to address other readers here, then I don't mind it at all, even though it can never become my principle. Dr. Pipes expresses as much his own (or I feel of various organizations he belongs or has belonged to) opinions as anyone of us does. I can't see why their opinions should be treated differently from his and his opinions should be addressed and not theirs? Why this asymmetry ?

As long as we remain in the barren land of legal fictions, wishful thinking and a priori definitions, you may well be right. But the moment we leave it and come in touch with the real practice and interests of the US government we inevitably have to face lack of decency,lying, treachery and double-dealing on its part. If neither Northern Cyprus, nor East Timor, nor Afghanistan, nor Yugoslavia, nor Libya, nor Syria have taught you that sad lesson, then I am afraid that also my earlier post " 'Devil's Game: How the United States Helped Unleash Fundamentalist Islam' by Robert Dreyfuss" with all its quotes will not be instrumental in changing your mind on that particular subject.
