Secularism will NOT solve the problemReader comment on item: Islam and Islamism in the Modern World Submitted by Rabbi Yeshayahu Hollander (Israel), Feb 4, 2013 at 09:21 The solution does NOT lie with secular people. The Middle East has returned to a certain religiosity. In many countries, this was accomplished by moderates, Turkeys Gulen and Oktar are examples. In some countries, where the Muslim Brotherhood were instrumental in the return to religion, even more radicals and fanatics take advantage of this. Thus the Muslim Brotherhood has been active in Egypt for decades, but Egypt under Morsi is fanatical Sharia, public executions of homosexuals by throwing them from the upper stories or roofs of multi-storey buldings, attacking women who dare walk alone in public etc. This behavior is a travesty of Islam according to many Muslims, but, thus far, the "Moderate Muslims" AKA the "True Muslims" are not doing enough to inhibit and to delegitimize the radicals, and are thus partners in the responsibility for the increasing hate of Muslims in Europe and in America. This is a tragedy for the Muslims and for the non-Muslims. Partly responsible for this are the misguided attempts to "engage" and "contain" the radicals, thus in effect making them the leaders of Muslim society, instead of supporting the Moderates and totally fighting the radicals. You understood the first but I intended the second. Reader comments (35) on this item
