There will be a deal between Iran and the US , eventuallyReader comment on item: The Silver Lining of Obama's Weak America Submitted by Debanjan Banerjee (India), Nov 13, 2013 at 20:55 Dear Dr. Pipes, There will eventually be a deal between the West and Iran. In the end , the nuclear program of Iran is mostly an afterthought to the overall scheme of things. It is not that important when you consider it seriously. The most important thing is that many Western countries are willing to invest in Iran's untapped energy resources ; Europeans are eager for it as the American companies. They are worried that with all these sanctions they are giving a free pass to the Chinese and the Russians to exploit Iran's resources. So there will be a deal in the end say may be six-months or a year later. From the Iranian view point , it is really image-boosting that these same Western countries who were willing to interfere in Iran's political affairs by toppling an elected PM Mossadegh just 60 years back , are now willing to sit down and negotiate with the Islamic republic the exploitation of those very same natural resources. What the French wants I mean are much better terms for their total and other oil and gas companies. France is already losing many thousans of jobs thanks to her carmaker Peugeot being unable to operate in Iran due to these sanctions. I would love your viewpoint on this irony. My viewpoint is that a deal is an eventuality in the end. So deal with it.
