Kennedy reminiscencesReader comment on item: The JFK Assassination's Continued Importance Submitted by Sigmund (United States), Nov 22, 2013 at 12:24 I was also in study hall when it first came on the news. There always were many whispers in study hall but suddenly the whispers kept building up in a crescendo fashion. Dramtically, our principal walked in and made the announcement. Unlike you, we were sent home. I probably agree that we would have been less likely to get deeply into Vietnam. But Kennedy, and even moreso Bobby, were strong anti-communists. By 1960's standards they were liberals, but by today's standards they might be considered right wing in a number of ways. "Ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country" seems more like what a Republican rather than a Democrat might say these days.
