Intrigued and impressedReader comment on item: Obama's Hollow Promises Abroad Submitted by Ron Thompson (United States), Feb 13, 2014 at 14:01 Allan Hertz has provided a remarkable piece of speculation, well and logically presented. I don't quite believe that Obama is thinking along these lines, but I could be wrong! Mr Hertz's conclusions certainly would fit Obama and Kerry's actions. It would be great if someone asked Carney, the White House press secretary, if the President and Secretary of State are trying to do to Israel what Chamberlain and Daladier did to Czechoslovakia in 1938. Is that the model for their thinking? Do they believe that this time Appeasement would work? Of course, it is also true that Israel is no Czechoslovakia militarily, and it is hard to believe that the US and a craven Europe could actually de-militarize Israel as was achieved by stripping Czechoslovakia of the Sudetenland. But it's less hard to believe that they might actually try, especially given the years of chatter that's it's "unfair" that [rational] Israel should have nuclear weapons when the [irrational] Arabs don't. Again, there is another factor that is consistent with this alleged plan of Obama's. At least in 1938, there was one voice, Winston Churchill's that was warning loud and clear of the military danger Germany presented to the Western democracies. Since there is no similar voice, either on the Left or Right, issuing similar warnings about Islam today, this void and vacuum in our national debate operates as another factor which might make the hidden plan Hertz suspects seem more plausible. Again, what he powerfully speculates and supposes about Obama's three-part goal should be part of the debate Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
