a Falklands moment

The US as perceived by public opinion is in decline. Britain, with the Empire gone for a while at the time, found itself on the exact same downward slope. Then came the Falklands War.

The US needs a Falklands moment just like that: Fight for sake of an out-of-fashion principle all alone in a desperate situation and win. Fighting for an island whose majority population are illiterate sheep with only a minority of British inhabitants was irrational. But it led to an emotion equally irrational known as victory.

Obama would fight over the Falklands. Trouble is, he would be fighting on the side of Argentina against his best ally.
