It will Never happenReader comment on item: Iran's Nuclear Buildup and American Irrelevance Submitted by sara (United States), Mar 8, 2014 at 20:35 Myth, Of course your logic and points make all the sense in the world- to westerners. I see the major obstacle to anything productive being two major weaknesses: a. the arrogant assumptions of western leaders that Middle east mentalities are similar to theirs, or that their goals and values are shared; and b. that within the western mentalities there are two polarized versions of realities, one a progressive 'civilized' one which assumes that everyone wants to play nice and that given the chance, they will; and the other, the realistic understanding that sometimes to have peace you must prepare for war (quoting a general i can't recall at the moment, sorry) It was inevitable that given Obama's weak perception in the rogue states, countries who could take advantage eventually will, and are. Bush for all his faults created a great barrier of deterence with his 'crazy cowboy' image and his commitment and determination. Unfortunately that is what works. and even more unfortunately, Israel would have to go it alone regardless of who is in the White House. I just hope they have the plan to pull off what is necessary.
