American exceptionalismReader comment on item: 50 Years of Dangerous Immigration Legislation Submitted by Charles Martel (United States), Oct 5, 2015 at 22:31 Bill Maher, one of those rare individuals who manage to be left-leaning and commonsensical at the same time recently opined that "our culture is not just different than Islam. It's BETTER". Building on this excellent article written by Dr. Pipes I would point out that from the 1960's on it has become de rigueur in this country to denigrate those very things we used to hold most dear. What has happened to celebrating Columbus Day? It's not Christmas anymore. It's the Winterfest break. And, what's the harm in giving Muslims their own prayer rooms. Or restructuring our entire educational system to allow for Muslim days of prayer. And on that subject, according to many high school curricula, Islam offers numerous benefits and features worth considering so why not spend a block of time immersing our children deep in the rituals and customs of Islam. What's the worst that could happen, right? And so, in our unbelievable blindness, we've stripped away the crucial protections that used to guard against situations like Saudi Arabia buying their way into almost all of our institutions of higher learning. Now, essentially every single Middle Eastern Studies program on college campuses nationwide operates according to the Muslim Brotherhood playbook. And when academia turns out an entire generation of brainwashed kids just about ready to adopt certain aspects of Sharia who shall we blame but ourselves. It's death by a thousand tiny cuts. In every civilization there comes a tipping point where the ideals of the past are shed in favor of something else -- sometimes a very dangerous something else. Can anyone doubt that we are rapidly approaching that place right now? Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
