Really so unlike other government decisions?

I am not sure I agree with the statement "Unlike other government decisions – say... defining the nature of marriage – those affecting immigration are both irreversible and profound". After Obergefell, Justice Samuel Alito articulated an opinion that seems to indicate that the Supreme Court's decision may indeed have consequences for America that are both profound and perhaps just as irreversible as the Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1965. (After all, though I am not saying this has happened yet in the USA, immigrants can in theory eventually assimilate to the culture and religion of their host country, reversing any initial negative effects of immigration.)
