NOT BLOODY LIKELYReader comment on item: Can the Dubai Model Inspire Arabs? Submitted by UNCLE VLADDI (Canada), Dec 31, 2015 at 17:55 Women - even Western women - are still arrested and jailed for being raped, in the UAE. People - even Westerners - are still often arrested and jailed for possessing alcohol there. Most importantly: while they have spent their free oil-wealth wisely so far, once it dries up (due to Chinese fracking or whatever) they are out of options. And, while they may indeed be "commercial-minded" right now, a big problem (beyond their lack of diversified investments elsewhere) is that they lack the intrinsic technical know-how to maintain their own infrastructure: Everyone who designed, built and maintains it, is an imported temporary-worker infidel foreigner. Said infidels will follow the money and leave Dubai and the UAE the second they're not paid to stay.
