The fire at the Address Hotel and lesson to be learnedReader comment on item: Can the Dubai Model Inspire Arabs? Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Jan 2, 2016 at 11:12 Dr Pipes The New Years eve fire at the Address Hotel is an example of what Dubai is all about: Style but no substance Glitz and glamor that can just disappear over night Dubai has serious problems for example with the way they trear their Pakistanis and Indian workers who are paid only 60-70% of pay when compared with Arabs and Europeans and Paks and Indians are not allowed in malls And to add to it the racial insults against foreign workers from Asia Hong Kong as well as Singapore are very successful because their development was market driven which is not the case in Dubai and as a very good friend from Dubai once said there will always be Hong Kong and Singapore but not Dubai Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
