SALEH M. MOHAMED, Co-President, Democratic Union Party [Syrian Kurdistan]Reader comment on item: Hello, Kurdistan Submitted by Robert (United States), Apr 11, 2016 at 11:37 Dear Daniel Pipes, You've changed your mind, and have recognized the Kurds of Iraq. But now is the time, I think, for you to voice support for the Kurds of Syria - in spite of Erdogan's Turkish opposition. "What's Missing From the Syria Peace Talks" by Saleh M. Mohamed, NYTimes Opinion [Today] It seems to me that the author of this opinion is correct regarding Turkey's pressure on Europe not to recognize these Syrian Kurds on the grounds that they are a front for the PKK when Erdogan is blackmailing the European Union with the Muslim Refugees "weapon." But Obama is in a good place to give support to these Syrian Kurds; will Erdogan shut the bases in Turkey from which the US coalition is fighting ISIS? Perhaps not. But let him make the move so that Iran is forced to go against ISIS if that happens. I hope that Obama sees that the correct Realpolitik move now is to support the Syrian Kurds, and demand that they too receive a seat at the table to negotiate peace terms. Otherwise, it looks like a repeat of the betrayal after 1920 Treaty of Sevres (Article 64). Or will our President Obama make his second biggest mistake (Libya he admits was the first) and not take the opportunity to demand the Syrian Kurds be seated art Geneva? Incidentally, these Syrian Kurds are shocking implementing the rights of Women in this sexist Middle East.
