Palestinians have broken the Israeli will for concessions to the formerReader comment on item: Breaking the Palestinians' Will to Fight Submitted by PezDispenser (Israel), Apr 17, 2017 at 05:06 "While the international community clings to visions of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Israeli public opinion is unified in asserting that the establishment of a Palestinian state is unrealistic and undesirable. Only 12 percent of Jewish Israelis believe that withdrawing from the West Bank would end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to a survey published by the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs at the end of March. Overall, Jewish support for withdrawal from the West Bank has decreased from 60 percent in 2005 to 36 percent in 2017. The survey also found that 79 percent of Jewish Israelis believe that it is important to retain a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty." [My comment: The Palestinians have broken the Israeli will for concessions not in their interest! Bill Clinton's preachy and enraging advice that Israel "take risks for peace" is now ignored! Compare this to the Oslo era where some Israelis were willing to give up the store (i.e. Barak's offer). Palestinian extremism and withdrawals that brought wars (e.g. The Oslo War from 2000-2005 and the series of Gaza Wars), wavering support from Obama and some Democrats, and scenes of regional brutality have changed many Israeli minds. Case in point: The Israeli Left has imploded. Labor hasn't led the country for more than 1.5 years in the last two decades and Meretz is relegated to the sidelines. At a maximum, Israelis are willing to vote in declared centrists but not leftists. Overall, If it was anyone's goal to get Israel to give up more land and follow the ill fated land-for-peace formula under this set of negative conditions, they have failed spectacularly. Luckily, this may bolster Dr. Pipes' strategy of wearing down the Palestinian optimism until they finally give up.] Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
