A true-life example of what Karl Popper referred to as, "The Paradox of Tolerance": a society so tolerant that it tolerates the intolerant must necessarily, over time, cease being a tolerant society since the tolerant must accept that the intolerant will soon be running things.

Or, as the Jewish sages warned, "He who becomes compassionate to the cruel will ultimately become cruel to the kind."
