Populism vs Popular WillReader comment on item: Why I Am Not a Populist Submitted by Steve (South Africa), Nov 27, 2019 at 06:54 I happen to agree with you but you make the same mistake with which' you accuse Populism as being simplistic towards complex issues. Cherry picking is easy but deceptive. For instance, despite its shortcomings, leftist liberal democracy of the EU has kept the peace in Europe since the 2nd World War. But then again being ruled through Brussels ( and Washington, Hollywood, etc ) and the inherent political correctness has created a backlash, I believe, yes against Elitism, which threatens the prevailing ruling order, and what used to be called the popular will of the People needs to be denigrated by terms such as Populism. Granted there are dangers of fascist and anti-semitic tendencies but these are extremisms not defining characteristics and need to be combated by all means by both centrist Left and Right alike.
