A Trump Supporter Agrees in PartReader comment on item: Reflections on the Debacle in Afghanistan: Interview Submitted by David Ryan (United States), Aug 21, 2021 at 04:22 As a general Trump supporter, I agree that leaving Afghanistan was Trump's initiative and that a complete pullout was certain to result in instability and as such was a bad idea. However, Biden was not bound unconditionally to the deal with the Taliban. When the Taliban violated the agreement with armed insurrection, Biden could have, and I believe Trump would have, reacted by driving them back while they were out in the open. I don't believe Trump's plan included pulling civilian contractor support from the Afghan army, thoroughly demoralizing it. And I sure don't think Trump's plan was to remove all the military before evacuating as many American and allied civilians as possible. Another thing Trump said which I disagree with was that defeating the Taliban would require killing 10 million people and he was not going to do that. 10 million is about the number of Axis civilians killed in WWII, along with 10 million soldiers. WWII is the model of a just war against the Axis and how victory is achieved. The Taliban is an evil on par with the Axis. When faced with an implacable enemy, as a leader you do what you have to do. Nobody is perfect. Some are better than others. Some are at least awake when the results come.
