Direct or indirect application of Q5-33 in New ZealandReader comment on item: Reflections on the Debacle in Afghanistan: Interview Submitted by Prashant (United States), Sep 4, 2021 at 12:50 Dear Dr Pipes, a Muslim ISIS supporter attacked 7 unsuspecting innocent people in New Zealand with a knife (ref below) . This person had sought refugee status in New Zealand in 2011. He was known to be an ISIS supporter. Do such attacks have any relation to Quranic verses like Q5-33? People will recall that Q5-33 directly instructs Muslims to attack and harm people who supposedly are against Islam, Allah or Muhammad. Usually we should not pay to much attention to objectionable parts of religious texts because all religious texts have sporadic calls to violence. But, the case of Islam is different. More violence is found around Islam. Islam's God talks about violence and punishment all too often. And, most importantly, there is very little opposition to such verses among Muslim people, politicians, or religious leadership. So, it is not entirely unfair to conclude that the terrorists like the attacker in New Zealand are influenced by Quranic verses like Q5-33. The people of world should be made aware of this.
