Afghanistan was the unwinnable warReader comment on item: Reflections on the Debacle in Afghanistan: Interview Submitted by Kepha (United States), Sep 6, 2021 at 07:45 Trump was right to want to get us out of Afghanistan and Syria. We made Osama Bin Laden sleep with the fishes and I think we made the point that if you support terrorism against us, we will leave your country a dysfunctional ruin. Afghanistan was never winnable in any sense of the word (the Soviets were far more ruthless than we ever were; et they also had to withdraw). As for Syria, did we really want to be the supporters of the kissing cousins of those who brought us 9/11? The USA needs to be a lot more careful about the fights in which it intervenes. We should also rebuild our human intelligence capabilities, which have long been a standing joke in international politics.
