POVReader comment on item: Germany's Jewish Leadership vs. Israel Submitted by LEONARD OKEN (United States), Sep 16, 2021 at 18:51 I appreciate your honesty M Tovey and I understand where you are coming from. Judaism is the oldest monotheistic religion but one that is alive and well. The New Testament has a different take on the Hebrew Bible than practicing Jews and emphasizes certain prophecies over others with different interpretations which allows for certain understandings to fit its narrative. The Jewish people do not believe in a Universalist religion, unlike Christianity and Islam. For the Jewish People, the return to their homeland is one of the biggest mitzvahs they can perform. Whether we are living in the Messianic age or not Judaism's chances for survival has greatly increased with the birth of the modern state of Israel if you follow the assimilation rates that is occurring for Jews outside the country. The survival of Judaism and the covenant Jews have with their God is more important than any particular prophecy or any particular Prophet. The people wanted a king and thus David came to the throne to establish for the Jewish people a sovereign state with God's blessing. The modern state of Israel is that state today ,Jerusalem is it's capital. If this makes you feel uncomfortable I am sorry but the Jewish people ARE a stiff necked lot.
