Hi Robert,

Thank you for your response. First, let me say-and this matters more than anything else I'll say-that I am very, very happy your parents survived the holocaust. I'm guessing they came to the USA after the war. Good.

You made four points.

Point 1. Thank you for that bit of family history. And I couldn't agree more, if you perform forced labor, if you live in a labor camp, then you're a slave. Period. I don't blame you for putting quotes around the word lucky. Yes, it's certainly a relative term.

Point 2. I agree with everything you say here. But, in all fairness, I was responding to your own description of a line in the Declaration of Independence being, or creating, a "legal dilemma." If this is (or was) the case, then it was indeed settled by the 13th and 14th amendments to the Constitution.

Point 3. Agreed. My point was not to in any way minimize the Jewish Holocaust, or compare it to anything, and if it sounded that way I'm sorry. My only point was that I think you're being misleading by describing Hitler as "the Catholic Austrian." Hitler was about as Catholic as Hideki Tojo.

Point 4. OK.

Just one remaining point of disagreement. If you still think the USA was the last place to abolish slavery then I still think you're wrong.
