Akbar Ahmed in RNS on PipesReader comment on item: Scholarship about Islam in America Submitted by Toni Hupp (United States), Jul 3, 2003 at 16:14 What I have found missing from the Muslim communities throughout the USA is any kind of demonstrative sorrow, apology, concern, or regret about Sept 11th, Islamic terrorists in general. Their silence has been deafening. I live in a town where many Muslims reside. They have closed their Masque and gone underground. We don't see hide nor hair of them. I don't see them at patriotic gatherings, or wearing a US flag pin, or writing "Letters to the Editor" explaining their religion; their position on religion, their stance against violence and terorism, etc.The American Islams have gone to ground . Why shoud I think they are any different from the Terrorists? They have given me no reason to believe they are anything but violent, hatefilled people like those who attacked us and are killing every American they can find. I think it is ridiculous that we are so damned concerned about avoiding "racial profiling." Who else should we be concerned about now but Muslims who might be violent? Bah Humbug!
