Islam Diversity ForumReader comment on item: Scholarship about Islam in America Submitted by Howard Nelson (United States), Jul 3, 2003 at 17:19 Is an internet forum feasible (transcript of the session's Q & A, comments to be included on the website, following the forum) discussing the range of Islamic viewpoints -- Sunni, Shia, Sufi, Wahhabi, other -- in both theory, philosophy, and PRACTICE?By practice I mean, the actual relationships approved for interacting with those of other faiths/persuasions both within Islam and outside of Islam? What sort of interactions are prohibited? It would be quite educational for the viewing public to know what the panelists' bases are for their positions, as derived from clearly specified 'chapter and verse' from the Koran, Sharia, and Hadith. What within these scriptures and traditions is being emphasized and what is being deemphasized (similar questions could be asked of Christians and Jews re Bible, Talmud, church doctrines, etc. )? Thank you for your always thought-provoking articles. Howard Nelson Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
