Right meets LeftReader comment on item: Mr. Palestine? Submitted by Fred Schlomka (Israel), Nov 26, 2007 at 01:39 To quote Mr. Pipes self quote: "I see a possible crisis in U.S.-Israel relations of unprecedented proportions – worse than 1975 or even 1957." In this I tend to agree, The main difference I have with Mr. Pipes is that such a scenario would harm Israel and the Middle East. If this crisis prompted the American people to seriously question US-Israel relations then perhaps we can finally get down to addressing the issues here in Israel/Palestine. If US support diminishes for the continuing land grabs in the West Bank, and starts prodding Israel to allow a viable Palestinian State to emerge, then people here might finally see hope on the horizon. The alternative is the emerging Apartheid-style Regime firmly in Israel's grip, that only will only lead us to more bloodshed and chaos. Just a few days ago I traveled the southern part of the West Bank to observe a massive road construction project (Rt. 60), a 'Jewish only' 4-lane highway, that helps to further carve up the Palestinian territories into disconnected cantons of Arab population encased in fences and walls. This enterprise currently has US support, subsidized by US tax dollars that flow into our military/industrial sector and freeing up hundreds of millions of dollars of my (Israeli) tax money for the further annexation of Palestinian lands. If Mr. Bush's gathering this week precipitates a breach of US/israel relations then thank G-d, hope is on the horizon.
