You Can't 'Contain' a VirusReader comment on item: Mr. Palestine? Submitted by Joe (United States), Nov 26, 2007 at 19:08 Radical Islam is a virus that has spread from sect to sect, nation to nation, and has proven itself to be 'uncontainable' by the governing classes in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran (under the Shah), Pakistan and elsewhere. To think that this virus will not infect the 'Palestinian peace process' is a fools game, so Pipes is correct in having major doubts about the Bush Annapolis initiative. In fact the current split between Hamas and the remnants of the Arafat gang is one more symptom of how supremacist Islam infects everything it touches, and will continue to do so until, like all viruses it burns itself out with the death of the 'host', in this case its followers. I suspect that the real purpose of the conference is to organize the Arabists in the middle east against Iranian expansionism and freelance 'Al Qaeda'-ism in the larger region, and try to draw a line between the hardcore Islamists and the 'moderates', as we have done through the Marine Corps in Anbar province. And to re-frame the Israel/Palestine issue in a larger context. And If Bush and Rice know something we don't know, e.g. the time and date for the pre-emptive attack on Iran, then well and good and more power to them. But if this is one more delusional, pseudo-evangelical initiative by the 'compassionate conservative' class and its foreign policy freshmen, in league with failed Israeli leader Olmert, then they will go down in history as worse than Clinton.
