Israel should state it's commitment to the whole set of democratic laws and valuesReader comment on item: Daniel Pipes: 'Israel Has No Policy' Submitted by Demsci (Netherlands), Dec 12, 2010 at 04:56 Inspiring article. Israel must be proud of what it stands for, where else will it get the inspiration to survive the tremendous pressure it is under? Israel must stand for all freedom has to offer people and the 5 democratic pillars; fair elections, constitutional state, separation of church and state, freedom of speech and autonomy of the individual. Precisely this last characteristic of Israel can make use of women, because it gives them autonomy and freedom and dignity. Israel should realise it is in a fight between Islam and Democracy. It should ditch whereever it can, like in the Galilee-triangle, it's Islamic citizens (with it's territory in exchange for Arab land). But only after giving them a chance to declare utmost loyalty to Democratic laws and values OVER AND ABOVE Islamic ones and after them refusing or violating that. Israel should pressure it's Islamic population into apostasy or reform, by declaring Islam in it's current forms simply too anti-democratic or untrustworthy for the Democratic system. And hence punishable, reason for expulsion, but as far as possible WITH unilateral territory-swapping. With a firm long-term commitment to Democracy and equal rights for women, Israel can strengthen this commitment and its probable success in prosperity and happiness, ever more and wait for the Palestinians and their Muslim backers, under pressure from their own huge failure, to either apostasize or write a democracy-friendly version of Islam and impose conditions on it's membership. If Israel cannot win in the long term in this way, what other hope is there? Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
