Electrify the fenceReader comment on item: A Turning Point in the Arab-Israeli Conflict? Submitted by Steven (United States), May 16, 2011 at 01:29 I totally agree with NuritG and kman. If you expect a handout from Israel, then show a bit of respect for the country/people giving it to you. If you expect to be treated equally, then act like an equal and as a subversive. If 20% of the population of Israel is Arab/Muslim, and 20% of the students in Israeli Universities are Arab/Muslim how is that Apartheid? There are Arab/Muslims in the Knesset and on the Supreme Court, was that allowed in Apartheid South Africa? No! These people who only since maybe 1964 or 1967 have referred to themselves as "Palestinians" are really Jordanians and Egyptians. If you speak Arabic, and listen to the folks in the West Bank their accent is Jordanian. The Gazans have an Egyptian accent/dialect. They are the only "refugees" that remain in settlements because it allows their puppet masters to keep the pot boiling, and diverts attention away from the corruption and power hungry rulers of Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, and to some extent Jordan. Israel gave up a huge territory, and the only land with oil on it, to get a peace agreement with an Egyptian leader (Sadat) who was then assassinated. If you ran any of these other countries, and signed such a deal, don't you think you would run the same risk? If the Arab Spring stays in the control of the young people who are not fanatical Islamists, and it takes hold in Syria and Lebanon as well, perhaps it won't turn into an Arab Winter for themselves and Israel. One can only hope. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
