Is Romney a neoconReader comment on item: Romney Channels George W. Bush's Middle East Policy Submitted by Shishir (India), Oct 9, 2012 at 11:33 I thought the neocon movement was pretty much discredited after George W Bush;s non success in nation building attempts and imposition of democracy in Iraq and Afghanistan. The party took a drubbing in 2006 and 2008 and prominent neo cons were sacrificed at the altar like Rumsfeld and others like Richard Perle,Paul Wolfowitz and Doug Feith either resigned or faded into irrelevance. David Brooks,Peggy Noonan and David Frum turned out to be fair weather friends and jumped ship in praising the Obama administration. That's why its shocking and frustrating to see Mr. Romney regurgitate the failed talking points of last decade. Hopefully he was just phoning it in when he made those comments and when he arrives in the Oval office on Jan 20th , the hard realities of the world will compel him to change his views and policies. To be fair to Romney, he was always touted himself as an economy guy and never seemed to give foreign policy too much thought. Also that's what the American voters wanted. Now he has to deal with the bitter fruits of the Arab spring so he better get his ... game face on. I was especially puzzled by reports of Condoleezza Rice (another neocon) being one of his picks for VP! Hopefully his cabinet picks will have a sobering effect on him Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
