Stupidity of the electorateReader comment on item: What Is the Future of Conservatism in the Wake of the 2012 Election? Submitted by Will (United Kingdom), Jan 7, 2013 at 02:34 Anne - I don't think Romney could have made that much improvement in things. The liberal genie has been out of the bottle for way too long. But your statement "All in all a pretty stupid electorate" reminded me of Mark Twain's observation: "If you don't read the newspapers, you're uninformed. If you read the newspapers you're misinformed." There is stupidity in the American electorate, but remember that most American sources of "news" have for decades been instruments of the Left's ministry of propaganda, and most American "educational" institutions have been more like re-education camps than schools for decades. So even the intelligent are indoctrinated. I was also reminded how an exchange student from China I used to know would shake his head in disbelief and confide in me, "Americans are like children," and how an Israeli friend of mine who lived in the States for years said America has "the shallowest, most superficial culture in the history of mankind." But regardless of the lack of information and the proliferation of liberal disinformation, and despite the deep brainwashing, one possible solution would be to allow only taxpayers to vote. That's one amendment to the Constitution I could support! Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
