Fundamentalist Islam as America's strategic allyReader comment on item: Innocents Abroad Build Foreign Armies Submitted by Ianus (Poland), Feb 14, 2013 at 02:38 Mark Werfel wrote : " Why so? Because we didn't identify fundamentalist Islam as the enemy; and we did not attack THEIR symbols of power with our military. The claim was to fight them there instead of here -- we fought some of them ineffectively there, and they're here anyway" How could they " identify fundamentalist Islam as the enemy" when they did define it as the main strategic ally in their global struggle against the Soviet Union and all it stood for as well as against the Arab nationalism ? Just take a look at Rober Dreyfuss' brilliant exposure of this strategy : "Devil's Game: How the United States Helped Unleash Fundamentalist Islam". There is also an interesting video with the author himself talking about the subject. His book is to my mind one of the most important books ever written.
