Soviets were the same.< It seems to me that the Soviets were not the same at all. They created some form of stability and order while the US creates and leaves chaos and instability. Afghanistan is an excellent example in this respect. The Soviets stood for land reform, universal education, equal rights for women, building schools and hospitals, abolition of the shariah, war on (US-backed) jihad. All these measures make Afghanistan between 1979-1989 (or 1993 after the final Taliban victory over Dr. Najibullah's regime) so different from what we can observe between 2001-2013. One can put the difference also in a shorter and more drastic way. Have you ever heard of any Viet Cong or Afghan communist crushing a plane into the Kremlin ?
