Islamic Reformation overdue

It took over a millenium for an absolutist, reactionary christian clerical domination of western Europe to create the conditions in which the reformists found a strong enough voice to demand a viable alternative to the established orthodoxy of the Roman catholic church. Perhaps the emergence of a similarly dogmatic, repressive, politicised islam (islamism) in the 20th century will create the conditions which bring about similar forces for reform from 'moderate' muslims.

I wonder how long it will be before a disenchanted muslim equivalent of Luther nails a rebellious treatise to the doors of the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem? Can't come soon enough for me!
