LeadersReader comment on item: The Rushdie Fatwa 25 Years Later Submitted by Mark D (United States), Mar 1, 2014 at 23:12 The spinelessness of leaders is one aspect of the problem, but not the key in my mind. The Left is the basic problem. Yes, siree, and I thank my lucky stars for your presence. To add to my comment, I am also concerned with Republican leaders. To wit - "I believe that Islam is a great religion that preaches peace," George W. Bush told an Arabic-language television station today, recalling the "religion of peace" phrasing he used in the aftermath of 9/11. This is not agreeable with me, but playing the devil's advocate, George Bush is simply paying his respects for religion and what is wrong with that? In the Florida pastor case of burning the Koran, which triggered a major freakout in the Middle East, Obama bent over backwards trying to stop the Pastor, even other government officials got involved in trying to stop the Pastor, and then at the same time issued an apology to the Muslim world over the case. Under the same circumstances, would Bush have done the same thing? Would a Republican done the same thing? Or Obama simply takes the cake?
