M Tovey's million dollar questionReader comment on item: The Rushdie Fatwa 25 Years Later Submitted by Prashant (United States), Aug 19, 2022 at 01:42 Dear people, in his above letter M Tovey asks the million dollar question: "How does the Quran provide any peace of mind in delivering that kind of message?" I have often applied Grandma's time-tested method of opening a random page of the scripture and reading it. I have applied this method on the Tanakh, the Christian Bible, my own Hindu scriptures, and on the Quran. No scripture perturbed me as much as the Quran did. First of all, I found the Quran very confusing, ambiguous, and difficult to understand. But, more than that, I was also deeply perturbed by Allah's anger, impatience, and harshness in the Quran. I think most Muslims treat the Quran as a deity or idol. They do not understand it or even try to understand it. It becomes a closed book and a 'symbol' of Allah. For moral guidance Muslims use the hadiths and whatever common human wisdom that they can find in the society they live in. It will help the whole world if Muslims read the Quran and try to understand it. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
