Assad's dictatorship not really the problem :: Reader comments at Daniel Pipes

Hi, Ann

Eliminating all opposition is standard operating procedure for Middle East rulers, other than Israel. Morsi is in prison, Gaddafi lynched, Ben Ali is in exile, etc. One can hardly blame Assad for wanting his enemies eliminated, rather than himself. President Obama seems to be taking him for some sort of fool, expecting him to put his neck in a noose. He's not a fool.

If Assad is removed from power, I can almost guaranty that his replacement will be worse.
