Real academic workReader comment on item: Did the CIA Fiddle With Population Statistics about Iran? Submitted by Lorenz Gude (Australia), Jan 5, 2015 at 09:27 Thank you Daniel for this example of the correct use of academic skills to dig out the truth of even a small error or manipulation in a standard reference claiming factual status. In an era when academics have largely become political activists, PR consultants, and propagandists it is refreshing to see an issue raised in the time honored fashion and then with no response forthcoming upping the ante by actually pointing out possible motives for a deliberate error. Even though I don't claim to fully understand this administration's pro regime stance on Iran, it is entirely plausible that they may even be cooking the CIA Fact Book to please those devote Persian rulers clinging to the bombs and their God. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
