Assume the IranGov has the most accurate data
Reader comment on item: Did the CIA Fiddle With Population Statistics about Iran?

And that their census agency is less able to be specific, than say the US Census Bureau. This group http://iranpoliticsclub.net/library/iran-population/ claims ethnic populations of: Persian 55% , Azeri 18% , Kurdish 8% , Gilak 5% , etc. However the points stand: What is the right number? What is up with the data switch?

Of course, estimates differ on a difficult topic like this. But why did the CIA to radically change its numbers and why so belatedly?
