Not really Scotland. You know about Hadrian's Wall, right? Although they did have an occasional fort or two mostly in the very south of Scotland - they could not defeat the Scots guerilla warfare methods. They had to settle for just taking over England for several hundred years.

Most likely the polls were undertaken by Obama-frendly stats companies. Te opinion out here from early o was that O was/is a bit of a shyster. Clever in certain ways and able to talk on his feet - but so are most street-smart people. Does not mean you are going to be a good politician.

What put many people off out here was the Youtube video(s) showing children singing hymns to Obama. To many people that was sick and basically child abuse. Their parents allowed them to be used in that way. We don't have the cult of personality and anything like all the hoopla that goes with a US presidential campaign and presidential inauguration. Most people I think now realise that politicians make many promises, keep very few and depend on the tolerance of the populace to stay in power. If they don't perform - then it's 'bye, bye - who's next?' I can see why Russians like having a dictatorship they love to hate.
